Validity Period of EADs to be Extended
In his remarks at the State of Immigration Address on June 9, 2008, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary, Michael Chertoff, announced that later this month, the validity period of employment authorization documents (EAD) will be extended.
At the moment, EADs have a maximum validity period of one year. However, for individuals who are awaiting adjustment of status to lawful permanent residence (green card), EADs that will be issued in late June 2008 will have a two-year validity period. Only those whose applications for adjustment of status are expected to be pending for more than a year would be issued two-year validity employment authorization documents.
